RBHA BOARD MEETING/GRASS PLANTING/BEACH CLEANUP

Saturday, March 21, 2009 will be a busy morning for the RBHA Board and you're invited to participate!  Starting at 8:00 that morning there will be a brief administrative meeting at All Saints Episcopal Church,

18 Olive Avenue.  Then at 9:00 the action will shift to the north end of the Boardwalk at the Henlopen Hotel parking lot.  Volunteers will concentrate on planting dune grass in an area just north of the end of the boardwalk.  Dress for the weather, bring gloves and, if you have something like a tomato stake, you can use it to poke holes for planting the grass.  Following the planting, we plan to walk down the  beach, garbage bags in hand, to perform our twice-yearly beach cleanup.

Our designated boundaries run from Columbia Avenue through to Prospect  street.  We would expect to complete all of these tasks by 11:00.   Come on out!

BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS WORKSHOP MEETING

The Board of Commissioners Workshop meeting scheduled for Monday, March 2, 2009, was cancelled due to inclement weather.

BOARDWALK COMMITTEE MEETING

With only three members present the Boardwalk Committee did not have a quorum for its scheduled February 27th meeting.  Nevertheless, several tasks were accomplished.  Committee Chair Stan Mills reported that the current construction project is going well; a portion of the affected area, from the centerline to storefronts, will be open for Easter weekend.  Full completion is still scheduled for mid-May.  He also provided further positive information about the prospects for Federal Stimulus funds.  If all goes according to plan, a contract will be signed by June 12, 2009.  This would mean work would begin in mid-August.  With input from the 6, 8 citizens on hand, a consensus was reached on the decking design for the new pine wood section of the boardwalk at Rehoboth Avenue.  It will be a double chevron pattern with a concrete border (about 12") to delineate the street end.

VEEP IN TOWN!

Vice President Joe Biden spoke to the Delaware State Education Association at its Retreat in Rehoboth Beach on Friday, February 27th.

The event was held at the Atlantic Sands.  The Vice President's motorcade included state and local law enforcement motorcycles and cruisers as well as an impressive component of Secret Service vehicles.  Big stuff for our little town!
