CITY OF REHOBOTH BEACH AND SAVE OUR LAKES ALLIANCE 3 TO HOST WORKSHOP

ON LAKES' PRESERVATION MAY 6

Have you ever wondered:  Can we swim in Silver Lake or eat the fish from Lake Gerar? At the invitation of Mayor Cooper and the Rehoboth Beach Commissioners, SOLA3 will host a workshop to provide you with information about the lakes – their importance to the environmental quality of our community and the threats they face as the area continues to grow in popularity.

This informative and fun workshop will be on Saturday, May 6, 2006, 8:30A-2:00P, at the Atlantic Sands Hotel.   A complimentary continental breakfast and lunch will be served to all who register.

John Hughes, Secretary of Delaware's Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, will deliver the keynote address.  Experts will address improvements made to Lake Gerar, the lakes' ecology and storm water management. You will learn about simple, inexpensive (or no-cost) measures that you can take to help protect and improve the lakes’ quality.  You don’t need to live beside the lakes for your actions to make a difference.  For example, did you know that many storm drains in the area go into the lakes?  Or that over-fertilizing your lawn can lead to algae blooms in the lakes?

In addition to speakers and “Ask the Expert” sessions, there will be booths from Federal and State environmental agencies and other local organizations.  You'll learn about the early history of the lakes and their importance to the Native Americans and English settlers.  Fast-forward to the 21st Century and you'll have a better understanding of how the Rehoboth Lakes have added to the rich diversity of the region in innumerable ways.

All registered attendees will be eligible for prizes.  The $5 registration fee is a real bargain considering all you'll learn, plus a FREE continental breakfast and lunch.  To register send your check for $5 made payable to SOLA3, PO Box 1504, Rehoboth Beach DE, 19971.  For questions, contact saveourlakes3@aol.com or call 302 227-3786.  Attendance is limited to the first 75 registrations so act quickly.  Walk-in registrations will be accepted at the door if space is available.

SOLA3 is a 501 (c) (3) organization incorporated in Delaware with a mission “To Preserve and Protect Lake Gerar, Silver Lake and Lake Comegys”.

Save Our City

The RBHA is highlighting Save Our City, a relatively new community organization.  Save Our City first came to public attention in 2005 when it supported the density code amendments passed by the City in May, 2005.  RBHA published a brief article in its December 2005 Newsletter.  But the history of the organization is more detailed than space allowed in that publication.  Below you will find a link to a comprehensive history of Save Our City. You may also visit the SaveOur City website at http://www.saveourcityrehoboth.org/.
