NEWS FROM THE RBHA

MARCH 28, 2006

A small house on Lake Avenue was also demolished.  It will soon be a boutique hotel.]

SUSSEX STREET REZONING SURVEY

We are conducting a simple survey to determine the opinion of RBHA memberships on the rezoning of properties on Sussex Street.  As we reported earlier this month the Mayor and Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution to hold a public hearing on the question of rezoning certain properties on Sussex Street from commercial to residential at its February 21st regular meeting.  The audience voiced opinions on both sides of the issue.  The public hearing is scheduled for April 17, 2006.  Now it’s your chance to express your feelings.

Using the following information we would like you to state your opinion on this significant CDP matter.

The affected properties are located on Sussex Street and Columbia Avenue.  Specifically, the resolution calls for the City to pursue the rezoning of certain lots on both sides of Sussex Street between Columbia Avenue and Fourth Street from C3 zoning to R2 zoning and eastward from the intersection of Sussex Street and Fourth Street, certain lots on the north and south side of Sussex Street from C1 zoning to R2 zoning and one lot on

Columbia Avenue from C3 zoning to R2 zoning.  You can view the complete resolution here; the definitions of C1, C3, and R2 may be viewed  here.   Excerpts of the CDP provisions relating to the Sussex Street rezoning issues can be seen here.

For efficient tabulation of your opinions, please follow these directions.

  1. Reply to this message by selecting the REPLY button in your eMail system. [The eMail address should read: info@rbhomeowners.com ]
  2. At the beginning of your text message, reply with one of the following choices:
  • If you believe the properties SHOULD BE rezoned as proposed, type FOR
  • If you believe the properties SHOULD NOT BE rezoned as proposed, type AGAINST

      3. Following your opinion about the rezoning, please provide your name and Rehoboth Beach address.

      4. If you would like to offer a more detailed response, please add that as well.

Your input will be submitted to the Board of Commissioners before the April 17th meeting, so we ask you to reply ASAP, but no later than April 10, 2006.

NO GRASS FOR THE DUNES!

The only thing worse that the cold drizzle Saturday morning was the 200 dune grass plants that were delivered.  The RBHA/VIA planting project was undermined by a mix-up in the 2,000 plant order we made!  Our apologies to those of you who braved the bad weather only to be turned away.

COUNCILMAN GEORGE COLE NEXT MEETING SPEAKER

This as an advance announcement to let you know we will have a special guest speaker at the next RBHA Board meeting.  The Honorable George B. Cole, Republican Council Representative for the fourth District of Sussex County, has been on the Council since first elected in 1986.  The meeting is scheduled for April 15, 2006 at the All Saints Episcopal Church at 18 Olive Street.  The meeting will start at 9:00 am and to encourage a good turn-out we’re serving coffee and pastries.  Plan to be there to address your questions and concerns to Councilman Cole.

BANDSTAND CONSTRUCTION

Here are a few photos showing the progress of the new Bandstand.  The large frame was used for a "tent" cover to protect construction from the weather.
